Scope of work :

AVAC focuses both on high HIV-burden countries and communities where the bulk of HIV prevention research is carried out, and on contributing to the global ecosystem by mobilizing resources, fostering accountability, exchanging knowledge, and building impactful partnerships with people living with and at high risk for HIV. Our work falls under three pillars:  

  • Translate: Bridging science and community through communication
  • Advocate: Mobilizing for inclusive and impactful programs, products, and policies
  • Catalyze: Cultivating and sustaining partnerships to spur advances in HIV prevention and nimbly apply those to emerging health needs and issues

COMPASS Thematic Area
  • 2017: AVAC led founding coalition of partners to develop COMPASS concept, fundraise and launch COMPASS coalition
  • 2017-2023: Served as secretariat of COMPASS, leading COMPASS sub-granting, coalition coordination and communications, proposal and reporting writing and donor engagement
  • 2021-2023: Co-led collaborative process to develop and launch new COMPASS governance framework
  • 2017- Present: AVAC coordinates COMPASS program support team that drives COMPASS strategy and provides campaign technical support across all partner campaigns, facilitates transnational learning/working groups and regional/global campaigns, and collaborates on Monitoring, Evaluation, Results and Learning Team
